Notes from the Music Room
Second grade students studied two topics recently that many wanted to explore outside of the classroom. If your child is interested, you can check out the following links together at home! CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS by Camille Saint-Saens 2nd graders composed their own animal rhythm (this will be coming home soon!) and learned a song “We’re Off to the Zoo.” We connected this to the famous composer Camille Saint-Saens who wrote a piece of music to sound just like specific animals. Students saw a puppet show accompanied by his music. While the puppet show is only available on DVD (link below), the music can be found on youtube, itunes, or at your local library. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsD0FDLOKGA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNbXuFBjncw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGI-hYVslPU Puppet DVD: http://www.musicmotion.com/product.htm?pid=432865 TABLA MUSIC from INDIA During culture week, 2nd graders learned about music and stories from India. They saw a boy play tabla (drums), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=884QLkT8sBQ&feature=related they performed a drumming song to accompany the folk tale “The Drum”: and they learned about stick dances: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z70-RV9Ovmw&feature=related Happy Linking! |
