The Making of a PodCast
PodCast Trailer

While MP3 players are prohibited at our school, you can download these PODCASTS to listen to morning and night, at home, in the car, on the weekends, and as an “eyestrain break” when studying. They work especially well for our Auditory Learners (Verbal – Linguistic). The PodCast +Plustm broadcasts are for our Visual-Spatial Learners.

Assignment Directions:

  1. Search the chapter for key words and themes.
  2. Find songs that contain these key words and/or themes.
  3. Search Mr. Peel’s CD’s for historical songs. Also check the media center.
  4. Search through a book of quotations for several quotes that appeal to you and that are related to the subject.
  5. MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE THE WORDS THAT YOU WILL BE READING.
  6. Write your script. (See the chapter review sheet, GeoQuiz Learning Stations, and/or the Practice Test Online for your chapter PodCast at Mr. Peel's History Closet.)

A.     5-10 seconds of intro. music, then your Introduction
(“Welcome to the HistoryClassroom.com PodCast! I’m your student DJ - First Name & Last Initial - with the Chapter X? Review, a few historical tunes, and some of my favorite sayings. Let’s get started. I’ll ask a question, give you some time to think of the answer, and then give you the answer.”

B.      First 10 questions (PAUSE about 3 seconds after each question before you say the answer, so that the listener has time to think of and say the answer.)

C.     TEN seconds of a historical song and/or favorite saying. (copyright laws).

D.     Next 10 questions (remember to pause before giving the answer).

E.      TEN seconds of another historical song or favorite saying.

F.      Reminder to go to www.HistoryClassroom.com for the Print-N’-Practice Map and the Practice Test Online.

    7. PRACTICE YOUR SCRIPT.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE THE WORDS THAT YOU WILL BE READING.

    8. Record YOUR PodCast! (Windows XP)
Go to “Start” –“Accessories”–“Entertainment” –“Sound Recorder”
(OR use a cassette tape recorder and we'll digitalize it later.)

SOUND RECORDER:

    1. It’s set to only record 60 seconds, so TIME your script, and then do this “work around”.
    2. Open sound recorder (“Start” –“Accessories”–“Entertainment” –“Sound Recorder”), unplug microphone, and click “record”.
    3. After 60 seconds, CLICK RECORD again so that you have 120 seconds.
    4. REPEAT until you have 1-2 minutes longer than your script.
    5. PLUG IN MICROPHONE!
    6. Have your script and CD of music ready to go.
      RECORD YOU PODCAST!
    7. If all else fails, or if you don’t have “Sound Recorder” on your version of
Windows, use a cassette tape recorder.
    8. SAVE Your PodCast! (so the next person doesn’t record over it!)
(Save as Ch. X? and your First Name & Last Initial)
We'll work on compressing it later for posting to the internet.
